Meet Your NACCU Volunteers: Audra Forsberg
November 2, 2021
This is the latest installment of the NACCU series highlighting our association volunteers. NACCU provides programs and services to our members, many which would not be possible without the dedication and commitment of our volunteer leaders. Volunteers, whether they are a committee member, a Board member, or an onsite volunteer at a conference, are all important in making NACCU volunteer-driven programs an exceptional experience for our card industry peers.
Campus Card Information:
Name: Audra Forsberg
School: Wayne State University
Volunteer Role: Volunteer Development Committee
What is your role at your institution?
I am the Director of the OneCard/Parking Service Center and Contract Services. The Service Center issues onecards, oversees door access associated with any CBORD readers, helps with the administration of campus meal plans, oversees the off-campus and on-campus vendor program, sells parking passes, and takes in other parking revenue from parking events, parking cards, lease parking, state vehicles, etc. I am also the contract administrator for the Pouring Rights Agreement, Campus Vending, and the Student Print Program.
Where was the first NACCU conference you attended?
My first NACCU conference was in 2013 in Orlando at the Disney property. I was excited to learn about being a card profession since I had just joined the OneCard Office in 2012 with no prior experience in the card industry. My background was Housing and Student Activities. It took me until 2017 to decide that I needed to get more involved In NACCU by joining a committee.
What is your favo(u)rite thing about volunteering with your NACCU committee?
I have previously served on the Membership Engagement Committee and now I am serving on the Volunteer Development Committee. My favorite part is that I get to know others and learn from them. I'm naturally an introvert, so this has helped me step our of my shell and network with others while helping to move the organization forward. I've always enjoyed volunteering and this gives me another avenue to do that.
What show are you binge-watching right now?
My husband and I loved watching Dark on Netflix, and we just got done watching Warrior Nun. I'll watch any Sci-Fi series.
What is your go-to coffee / tea order?
My go-to order is Peppermint Tea.
What is your favo(u)rite memory from when you were a student?
I have many great memories from living in the residence halls as a student. I made some of the best memories with my friends while leading the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and volunteering with Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity.
What is one thing that would surprise people about you?
I think it would surprise people to know that I competed in Strongwoman competitions for a few years. I lifted stones, pulled trucks, and deadlifted small cars. It is hard on the body so now I just do a combination of yoga, weightlifting, and Pilates. If I had started when I was younger, I might have been able to do it longer.
If you could eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
It would be either chocolate or blueberries. I love both equally.
