NACCU 2017 New Professionals Institute (NPI)

The NACCU New Professionals Institute is a pre-conference workshop directed to Institutional and corporate members who are new (three years or less) to the campus card transaction industry or new to their area of responsibility. 

Sessions and events are specifically designed to help attendees learn the basics of campus card programs, industry best practices, and problem-solving techniques.  We’ll have lots of discussion, networking and time to ask questions.

Certificates of Attendance will be presented.

Panel Discussion: The Basics of Card Systems
Panelists from various institutions will share their specific organizational structure, staffing, responsibilities, services (meal plans, door access, etc.), funding sources, statistics and reports.

Small Group Discussions
These highly rated ‘speed dating’ style discussions are each led by an industry professional. New professionals will break into smaller groups by interest for discussion and questions in this interactive format. At the end of a time period, attendees will rotate to a new table topic with different colleagues, and begin another engaging discussion.

1. Making a Leadership Move: Developing Your Executive Strategy

We’ll also cover some do’s and don’ts of how to present yourself when you decide to make a career move.

2. Habits of Highly Effective People

    Presenter: Anne Schroeder, Schroeder Management Consultants

Stephen R. Covey's best-selling book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is the basis for this workshop. The book outlines a step-by-step pathway to creating workplaces that not only respect the individual and his or her capabilities, but also empowers people to reach their potential in their jobs and personal lives.


This workshop explores the need for substantial paradigm shifts in the way business is done, and identifies the principle-centered leadership Covey describes in his book. You will learn:

  • the difference between proactive and reactive behavior, empowering you with choices on how to respond to stimulus
  • how to be most productive by utilizing techniques such as a personal mission statement
  • the value and how-to’s of managing priorities
  • the concept of win-win leadership and conflict management
  • the power of effective listening skills
  • principle of synergy, clarifying the notion that no one can do it alone
  • how to stay current in your field of work (and life!)

This workshop identifies the habits along with discussion and experiential activities for each habit. The principles are developed so that each participant can incorporate these habits into his or her work world immediately.

Having only been in the campus card industry for less than a year, this institute was most helpful for me in gaining a macro and micro view of the industry.

I especially appreciated the roundtable discussion as it gave opportunity to ask specific questions about my school's needs but also to learn from the questions from other schools.
