From the Executive Director:
The Game Changer
Dawn Thomas, NACCU Executive Director
I want to thank the NACCU community, and to let you know that with all the challenges over the last few weeks, I think we can say that our professional cup runneth over. In challenging times, having a community of people who truly care about one another is a game changer. Nothing communicates that more recently than the activity on the NACCU institutional listserv where members have been very busy with collegial support for one another. Through the evolution of this situation, members and attendees have been patient, knowing a lot was on the line.
The NACCU Board made a really tough decision while facing an unprecedented situation. My guess is there have been few decisions in their professional careers more challenging than to cancel the annual conference – but from the reaction of the community just today, it was the right decision. I have to recognize the leaders and volunteers who are the real heroes here. Leading is not easy, or else everyone would do it. The Board, standing committee volunteers, and the Conference Committee have tirelessly put their hearts into planning and creating new initiatives for the conference program this year. While we are all disappointed, we know our NACCU family understands and will support the Association as we move forward.
I have no doubt, the next time we gather will be one for the ages – a true representation of building community and a sense of belonging.
What’s next… NACCU is preparing for various events online. Watch your email soon for information about the virtual Annual Business Meeting, a virtual award ceremony where we invite you all to bring your lunch and join us as we present the various awards typically announced at the annual conference, and many other programs to keep you connected.
Educational sessions and programs from our corporate and institutional members will also be coming at you – we cannot let this opportunity slip by!
