Statement on COVID-19 from NACCU

We would like to assure you that NACCU is moving forward with the annual conference in Austin. We will continue to monitor news about coronavirus through various channels.

Certainly, conference attendees should take common sense precautions, and we will continue to encourage this.

1. Individuals should not attend or travel to a conference if they are ill. If attendees develop a fever, they should self-isolate until they are fever free for 24 hours. If they fall ill and there has been any contact with someone who has recently traveled to China or who has fallen ill with COVID-19, they should contact the local health department for more guidance.

2. We encourage hygiene etiquette for all NACCU conference attendees. Specifically that means covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, placing used tissues in a waste basket, coughing or sneezing into your upper sleeve, not your hands and washing hands after coughing or sneezing.

We have confirmed with the hotel that appropriate environmental cleaning is occurring regularly.

The CDC is emphasizing that standard infection control measures continue to be the best way to avoid any respiratory disease, including COVID-19. According to the CDC, “Handwashing is the single most important infection control measure. Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use alcohol-based hand rub (containing at least 60% alcohol) if soap and water are not available. Avoid touching your mouth, eyes, and nose with unwashed or gloved hands.”

The CDC has stated "while there is a potential public health threat both globally and in the US, currently, for the general American public, who are unlikely to be exposed to this virus, the immediate health risk from COVID-19 is considered low at this time."

NACCU will communicate directly should developments occur. We are excited to see you at the conference.

Dawn Thomas,
NACCU Executive Director
