Meet Your NACCU Volunteers: Laurie Harris

January 3, 2020

This is the latest installment of the NACCU series highlighting our association volunteers. NACCU provides programs and services to our members, many which would not be possible without the dedication and commitment of our volunteer leaders. Volunteers, whether they are a committee member, a Board member, or an onsite volunteer at a conference, are all important in making NACCU volunteer-driven programs an exceptional experience for our card industry peers.

Campus Card Information:

Name: Laurie Harris

School: Duke University, Durham, NC

Volunteer Role: Member, Professional Development Committee

What is your role at your institution?

I serve as the DukeCard Program Manager. I am responsible for managing DukeCard projects, developing our network of access coordinators, and managing requests for access data. I also work with DukeCard technical staff to plan improvements in the Transact and Grouper systems, and with the Identity Management team on related automation projects. Process documentation, mapping, and streamlining are also part of my responsibilities.

Where was the first NACCU conference you attended?

My first conference was in New Orleans.

What is your favo(u)rite thing about volunteering with your NACCU committee?

The best thing about volunteering is the chance to promote industry knowledge and awareness. I also enjoy the networking opportunities and the chance to discover new ideas that I can bring back to my program.

What show are you binge-watching right now?

I just finished watching "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" and have started on season three of "The Crown."

What is your go-to coffee / tea order?

I like a non-fat latte with the occasional splurge for a holiday latte.

What is your favo(u)rite memory from when you were a student?

My dad was a dean at the university I graduated from - he got to hand me my diploma when I graduated even though my program was in a different college!

What is one thing that would surprise people about you?

I have a professional certification from Georgetown University in Organizational Development. I'm a trained Myers Briggs Type Indicator and True Colors facilitator.

Did you make a New Year's resolution, and if yes, can you share?

I do make resolutions but try to do it year-round, not just at the new year. My current resolution is to be more present in the lives of my brothers and sisters who all live close to me.

We hope you have enjoyed learning about Laurie! Please look for a new edition of "Meet Your NACCU Volunteers" in a few weeks.
