Meet Your NACCU Volunteers: Grady Richartz

March 25, 2019

This is the latest installment of the NACCU series highlighting our association volunteers. NACCU provides programs and services to our members, many which would not be possible without the dedication and commitment of our volunteer leaders. Volunteers, whether they are a committee member, a Board member, or an onsite volunteer at a conference, are all important in making NACCU volunteer-driven programs an exceptional experience for our card industry peers.

Campus Card Information:

Name: Grady Richartz

School: University of Wisconsin-Stout, Menomonie, WI

Professional Role: Director of Campus Card and Student Life & Services Technology

Volunteer Role: Member, Volunteer Development Committee

What is your role at your institution?

My responsibilities include overseeing the campus card transaction system, all POS systems used within University, Access Control, and Video Surveillance. My Student Life & Services Technology team works closely with multiple departments in Student Life and Student Services to support their business IT operations.

Where was the first NACCU conference you attended?

My first NACCU conference I attended was back in 2014 when it was held in Chicago, IL.

What is your favo(u)rite thing about volunteering with your NACCU committee?

The people. I enjoy meeting, networking, and learning from my colleagues in NACCU.

What show are you binge-watching right now?

I am not a binge-watcher. Believe it or not, I don't have satellite, cable or internet service at home.

What is your go-to coffee / tea order?

I would have to go with sweet tea. I don't drink coffee and have not had a caffeinated soda since July 4, 2007.

What is your favo(u)rite memory from your own student days?

My favorite memory as a student was playing intramural sports with friends. Our team comprised of Applied Mathematics majors won the slow pitch softball championship my senior year.

What is one thing that would surprise people about you?

I have been a "big" for Big Brothers Big Sisters for almost ten years. I was matched with my "little" Sam for seven years. My current "little" AJ and I have been matched for almost three years. Becoming a "big" has been one of the best decisions of my life.

What were your plans for St. Patrick's Day?

I am 1/4 Irish, if you couldn't tell by my first name. My plan for St. Patrick's day was pretty simple. I celebrated my heritage by enjoying some culinary classics like corned beef and cabbage and shepherd's pie. I may have also had a Guinness, Harp's, or Smithwick's, or five.

We hope you have enjoyed learning about Grady! Please look for a new edition of "Meet Your NACCU Volunteers" in two weeks.
