NOVA Certifies MagTek’s ExcellaTM
Check Scanner for Electronic Check

MagTekŪ Inc, a global leader in
electronic payment technology, is
proud to announce that NOVA
Information Systems (NOVA), a wholly
owned subsidiary of U.S. Bancorp
(NYSE: USB) has certified and is
currently deploying MagTek’s Excella
Check Scanner as the cornerstone
hardware component for their
Electronic Check Solution (ECS) for
multi-lane retailers, employing
back-office image uploads.
The Excella, a multi-document
scanner and imaging device, is
offered as part of NOVA’s Electronic
Check Solution. With ECS, retailers
use existing in-lane MICR technology
to perform real-time financial
authorizations, mitigating check
acceptance risk and improving cash
flow. MagTek’s Excella is used to
upload batches of checks at the end
of the day, joining the check image
with the original transaction
detail, and eliminating the need for
monetary back office reconciliation
to point-of-sale activity.
Excella automatically processes up
to 70 checks per batch while
endorsing, reading MICR data and
scanning the front and the back of
the check in a single pass.
Additionally, Excella reads E13B and
CMC7 MICR fonts, supports a
programmable endorsement message and
produces high-quality images at 200
dpi in grayscale or black & white.
