NACCU 2016 Conference Tips and Information

As you prepare to attend NACCU 2016, please read through this information to ensure the best possible experience while at the conference. Also, please follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook, as we will be sharing photos and information before and throughout the conference.   

Conference Attire
There is no official dress code for the conference. You'll see everything from flip flops to full business suits. But most attendees wear business casual attire. You probably want to bring a light jacket or sweater to sessions with you in case rooms are chilly. Be sure to also bring some comfortable shoes for NACCU Fitness and exploring San Francisco.
Bring some logo clothing to wear to the opening reception on Saturday night. Saturday is Wear your Colors! day - show off your school's colors, sports team, or even your card office logo! Sweatshirt, hat, jersey, jacket, t-shirt - whatever you want to wear to show off your school!

The average April San Francisco temperature is a low of 50 degrees and a high of 63. However, the way that this temperature feels on your skin can vary greatly depending on whether it’s sunny or foggy. It can also vary significantly from one neighborhood to the next. Wear comfortable clothing that breathes easily and pack a few layers for the hours when it is chillier out.

NACCU Mobile App
The NACCU 2016 Mobile App can be downloaded by scanning the QR code to the right, searching for NACCU 2016 in iTunes or Google Play, or by going to on your device.

You can use the app to schedule your conference experience - just be sure to always sync when you open the app or make changes, so you don't lose your data. You may also use the app to complete session evaluations, look up other attendees, and more!

Transportation Options
View your transportation options on the NACCU 2016 website here. You can also pre-purchase a round-trip BART ticket voucher to avoid waiting in line at the airport.

Hotel Conference Levels/Maps
The NACCU 2016 conference will be held on the following levels at the Marriott Marquis:

Level B2: (down the escalator or elevator from the lobby)

Exhibit hall

Lower Level B2: (down the escalator or elevator from Level B2)

Conference registration - South Registration Desk. Note that you will walk past the North Registration Desk to get to NACCU, and there may be another group in that area.

Educational session rooms: Salons 1 - 6 are around the corner from the North Registration desk close to the escalator. Salons 10-15 are around the corner from the NACCU registration desk. 

Level 2

The Opening Reception on Saturday evening will be held in the Atrium on Level 2.

Traveling with Guests
If you are traveling with unregistered guest(s), here are a few tips to make sure they know what to expect.

You are welcome to use NACCU's twitter feed to organize meet-ups for conference attendees as well as guests. Use and follow hashtag #naccu

Guest tickets are available for the Awards Luncheon and the NACCU Night Out event. Guest tickets can be purchased online, or at the On-Site Registration window at the conference registration desk.You may also purchase guest tickets for the campus tour through Janice at 

Unregistered guests will not have access to the exhibit hall or NACCU 2016 conference events, except as outlined above.  

Your Credentials and Registration Materials
Upon arrival at the NACCU registration desk, you will receive:
  • Your badge packet, which will include
    • Your badge, which you will need for ALL conference events and sessions, including NACCU Night Out. Your badge will include a barcode, which will be used to scan you into events and sessions. 
    • Badges for your guest(s) if you purchased guest ticket(s).
    • Any badge ribbons that apply to you: First-Time Attendee, Presenter, Exhibitor, or Mentor. Please affix your ribbon(s) to the bottom of your badge pouch.
    • A ticket to enter the prize drawing in the exhibit hall. Bring it to the NACCU table on Tuesday morning, and throw it in the tumbler.

  • A lanyard. We will have pins available at the registration desk if you would like to shorten your lanyard.

The following items are optional. We have received feedback that some attendees wish to pass on receiving these items, in order to be green or because they are not needed. If you do not want one or more of these items, simply let us know at registration.

  • A conference bag (optional) 
  • A printed conference program (optional) 
  • A water bottle (optional, although if you would like to be able to access water at the stations throughout the conference, we encourage you to take one.)
Membership Recognition

NACCU is honored to recognize our 5, 10, 15, and 20 year NACCU members. If your institution is listed, pick up a special recognition lapel pin from the NACCU registration desk.

Internet Access
In-room access is included with your Marriott Marquis or King George Hotel room reservation, if you reserved your room under the NACCU room block.

Conference area Wi-Fi is available using the naccu domain. You will receive the password at the conference.

Add-on Events
Pre-registration is required to attend these events. You may purchase these events by adding them to your registration, by contacting Janice at, or at the conference registration desk.

The NACCU Mentor Program for First-Time Attendees
The Mentor Program is available to all first-time conference attendees. If you would like a mentor to help guide you through the conference and help you make connections with other attendees, please check the appropriate box when you register for the conference, or contact us at
You are invited to attend the Mentor/Assigned Attendee Meet and Greet at 5:00PM on Saturday, April 16, where you will meet other first-timers and mentors, and will go on to the Opening Reception as a group. See the program or app for room locations.

NACCU FITNESS: Zumba and the Fun Walk/Run
NACCU is excited to bring you opportunities for fitness on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday mornings at 6:30AM. Please join us, even if you have no experience. It's all about having fun and starting each day with high energy. Those who attend will receive a t-shirt and towel as mementos. Water will be available at water stations for these events.  Bring your own water bottle. 
Sunday Annual Business Meeting

This Annual Business Meeting will include all the usual items. You'll participate in the Board of Directors election, vote on any changes to the By-Laws, and observe the "exchanging of the gavel" as the outgoing Board President hands the reigns to the incoming President. You'll approve last year's meeting minutes and review NACCU's financial position. These files are also available as handouts in the mobile app under the event "Annual Business Meeting".

But this very special Business Meeting also will give you an opportunity to say an official goodbye to NACCU Executive Director Lowell Adkins, and to meet our new ED, Dawn Thomas. Lowell doesn't retire until June 30, but this will be his last conference and his last event with NACCU members - so please join us at the Business Meeting to wish him the best in his upcoming retirement.

Monday Lunch Options

You have your choice of one of two options for lunch on Monday.

Option 1: Enjoy networking with peers over an unprogrammed lunch.

Option 2: If you are interested in discussing the changes to the DoE banking regulations and how they affect card programs, join Joan Piscitello for a Department of Education Banking Discussion.

Both lunch options will include the same food.

Session Seating 
If it is important to you to attend a specific session, be sure to arrive early to ensure you get a seat. We also encourage you to please take a seat near the front of the room, so that latecomers can slip into the back seats.

If you require ADA accommodations for seating, please note when you register for the conference, or notify us if you need assistance.

NACCU Night Out

End your conference experience with an exciting evening of celebration with your fellow conference attendees. There will be food, drink, and entertainment at the top of the Merchants Exchange Building, one of San Francisco's landmarks. If you are traveling with a spouse or friend, or if you have an Exhibit Hall only pass, tickets for guests are available at $100 each. You may purchase guest tickets online or on-site at the conference. Staff from Tapingo will be on-site and can assist in ordering beverages through Tapingo Delivers Drinks. Beer, wine, and soda are available at no charge. You may also purchase spirits.

Important: bring your conference badge with you for admission into the event. 

NACCU will be offering bus transportation to the Merchants Exchange Building for this event beginning at 5:45 PM. Continuous shuttles will run through 6:30 PM.

There will be a continuous shuttle back to the Marriott beginning at 7:30 PM, with the last bus leaving the Merchants Exchange Building  at 9:15 PM.

If you choose to walk to the event, the map below has directions from the Marriott. Bring your conference badge with you. Once you arrive at the Merchants Exchange Building, you will take the elevator to the 16th floor.

Items in Your Room
You may receive candy, newsletters, postcards, invitations, or other items from vendors in your hotel room while attending the conference. Please know that these items are placed by hotel employees, not by conference administrators or vendors.
Recycle Table
Did you pick up something that you don't have room for in your luggage? Brought a book /magazine and you're done with it? Leave it on the recycle table by the registration desk, or find a treasure for yourself!

Look for NACCU board and staff. We wear matching shirts each day.
Look for anyone wearing an "ASK ME" button on their shirt.
Come to the registration desk.
