KEYNOTE: Andrew Sharman

What do defense logistics, bomb disposal, serving four different premiers, and managing the response to flood disaster have to do with higher educations? If you are Andrew Sharman, Vice President of Facilities and Operations at the University of Alberta, these are just a few experiences that helped prepare you to lead the largest portfolio at one of Canada's largest research institutions.

Andrew has graciously agreed to kick off the 2017 Canadian Campus Card Conference by sharing stories about his unique journey to the University of Alberta and providing senior leadership insight into how our campus programs must integrate not only within the campus but across all institutions including government.

Andrew Sharman leads the Facilities and Operations portfolio that provides services to all five of the University of Alberta's campuses.  The portfolio is made up of five units: Ancillary Services, Operations and Maintenance, Planning and Project Delivery, Utilities, and the university's Office of Sustainability, which is a joint oversight with the Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic).

Andrew brings a deep and broad experience from the public sector, working with Alberta Health Services, and the former Capital Health in a number of senior leadership roles. In 2013, he was appointed Deputy Secretary to Cabinet and Deputy Clerk of Executive Council working for three successive premiers.  Most recently, he served as Assistant Deputy Minister of the Health and Government Facilities Division with Alberta Infrastructure.

Sharman has a Master of Science degree in Defence Logistics Management, graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, and spent 22 years in the British army.  Andrew is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Logistics and Transport.
