NACCU Names Dawn Thomas as New Executive Director

The National Association of Campus Card Users (NACCU) is pleased to announce that Dawn Thomas will be the next Executive Director for the association effective July 1, 2016. Current Executive Director Lowell Adkins will continue in that role until then. Dawn will be introduced at the NACCU Annual Conference in San Francisco in April.

Educational Sessions:

You asked for more sessions, and now you have them! With eight session blocks, over 60 sessions to choose from, and a wide variety of topics and skill levels, you will definitely go home with ideas to build the Bridge to the Future! You can choose to go in-depth with our keynote and general speakers, learn industry insights from our Gold corporate members, have free discussion with other attendees interested in specific topics at our Roundtable sessions, and learn from those who have gone through what your program is facing now, and have come through to the other side with experience to share! From the Executive Director: Conference Preparation

In this issue of CARDtalk, you will find a Comparative Statement of Financial Position for NACCU for the fiscal years ending June 30, 2014 and June 30, 2015 and a draft of the minutes from the 2015 Annual Meeting in New Orleans. Additional financial information and the minutes are available on the NACCU website. Please review this information.

I hope you are planning to attend our 23rd annual conference in San Francisco and that you will attend the Annual Meeting. If you are planning to join us, then you know there is important preparation involved in making the trip happen. You may have to work through some administrative approval process, you need to register for the conference, you need to reserve lodging and make travel arrangements, and, as with any occasion when you are not there, you will need to have a plan for covering your responsibilities while you are away from the office.

I’d like you to consider some additional things in your preparation process. I believe they are in a real sense just as important as the other ones.

First, set some individual goals to accomplish. The primary focus of our conference is always professional development – and the San Francisco event is going to be wonderful in this regard. Perhaps there are areas you want to highlight for personal growth - to expand your knowledge and understanding of our industry or to gain a better insight in managing operations and staff. Networking is also an important part of our conference, thus a rewarding goal would be to meet more people. As I have often commented, this is an especially sharing and caring group of folks, so the more you network, the greater a support system you will have at the conference – and beyond. And, San Francisco is a great place for recreation. Just being able to get away from your day-to-day activities and “smell the roses” is also a good personal goal.

As you prepare to attend the conference, please think of questions you want ask – things you want to know about that are maybe too involved to put on the listserv. Solicit questions from your colleagues who will not be attending. I know they would appreciate your thinking of them and bringing back helpful information.

Consider things you want to share. It always amazes me how many ways our members have found to manage the needs of their campuses. I’m confident that no matter how long - or short - your experience is in the campus card community, you have something to share that will help some other person at the conference.

So, plan to attend, make your preparations, and we’ll see you in San Francisco!
