From the Executive Director: Happy New Year!

Lowell Adkins

2016 …Happy New Year!  While the date on our calendars is changing, for most of us this is really mid-year in the academic schedule and in the midst of our fiscal year. Nevertheless, it is a new calendar year and a good time to reflect on the past year and prepare for the new one.

For NACCU, 2015 was a year of solid accomplishments as we continued to provide a wonderful array of services to our membership. The conference in New Orleans was another outstanding event; the listserv remained a vibrant resource for those needing an answer to a question; the website expanded the collection of useful industry knowledge; web conferences were offered on a number of important and timely topics; and we had great regional workshops at the University of Notre Dame and Mount Holyoke College.

As a reflection that we are offering services our members value, and with a lot of great effort from our Membership Committee, we attained a 96% retention rate among our institutional members for 2015-2016!  This is a significant achievement for us.

In mentioning the Membership Committee, let me say that the entire Association committee structure continues to develop. Indeed, the various committees are producing valuable results and are creating plans to do even more in 2016 and beyond.

A project begun in 2015 that we look forward to implementing fully in 2016 is new association management software – database technology for maintaining membership records, a new infrastructure for the website and more.  We believe this new system will meaningfully improve the member experience on the NACCU website, in searching the member directory, in locating relevant content and in collaborating with colleagues on committees and within interest groups. Look for updates on this in the weeks to come.

The Board of Directors has been particularly focused on strategically planning for our future - to provide enhanced benefits and services to our members while maintaining a strong financial position. In 2015, and through the early part of 2016, an important part of that focus has been and will be moving through the search process for a new Executive Director.

2015 was a good year for NACCU; 2016 is shaping up to be even better. The conference in San Francisco promises to be outstanding. The Board continues to develop a spirit of teamwork and camaraderie that will result in many good things for NACCU. The national staff is committed to enhancing the services we offer our members. While I will be with you for only a part of it, I am really looking forward to this new calendar year.

I encourage you to resolve in this new year to expand your horizon, to participate in the greater campus card community, to become involved in some aspect of NACCU, and offering help to a colleague by sharing your experiences and your knowledge.

Next January, may we all be able to look back on 2016 and say, it was a good year – a very good year!
