Tom Barlow, Xavier University |
Tom Barlow is the Director of Auxiliary Services at Xavier University where
he has been employed for the past 14 years. His position includes the
development and management of Xavier’s Musketeer All Card program.
He has worked in higher education since 1978 after completing his master’s
degree at Southern Illinois University. He has retained faculty or
administrative positions at Northern Kentucky University, Cincinnati
Academy of Art and Xavier University.

Mel Blackburn, Loyola University |
Mel Blackburn is in his fifteenth year of service at Loyola College in Maryland where he is the Director of Administrative Services. A founding member of NACCU, Mr. Blackburn is best known for endeavors regarding the use of smart cards in higher education. Sherry Blanton is the Technical Coordinator at the ID Center at Western Kentucky University. She helped develop and implement the current color video badging system as well as the previous black and white video imaging system. Don Blotner has been providing management and consulting services to the vending industry since 1985. His history to date includes 20 years of hands on operations experience in both privately held and publicly run businesses as an independent operator and as a director for a major university's vending department. Business channel experience includes full line vending, CSV, OCS, contract dining, catering and wholesale distribution. His most recent consulting work has been focused on integrating data management software into operations.

Lee Croatt, University of Minnesota |
Mr. Croatt is currently Director of Marketing, U Card Information Systems at the University of Minnesota.
Mr. Croatt has worked for the University of Minnesota for over 32 years in a variety of computing and technological positions. He has most recently served as Director of Central Computing services and Director of Health Science Computing Services, where he successfully took on the challenge of delivering computing services on a cost recovery basis; not easily attainable in an academic environment.
Over the last five years, Mr. Croatt has focused on the transition of traditional computing organizations to the integration of new computing technologies, while incorporating today's models for services and staff team work, and maintaining a high level of customer service. His implementation strategy includes an appropriate balance of down sizing, right sizing, re-engineering, budget cuts and layoffs.
Mr. Croatt oversaw the University of Minnesota's introduction of the World Wide Web, as well as the implementation of an enterprise wide directory that provides E-mail services using standards-based products. His current emphasis is the expansion of directory-enabled applications in support of magnetic stripe and smart card technologies, support of public and private keys for authorized access and electronic commerce on the network (internet, intranet, and extranet), and advisory participation on the groups overseeing the State of Minnesota and MnSCU (Minnesota State Colleges and Universities) initiatives for implementing card technologies into their environments. Mr. Croatt graduated from the Minnesota School of Business Automation Institute of America and attended the University of Minnesota and Hamilton Business College. |
Susan Dorsey, University of Colorado - Boulder |
Susan Dorsey is the Buff OneCard Manager at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She has been involved in the Buff OneCard program for the last three years of its research and implementation. CU-Boulder's card program began in the fall of 1997, and consists of a banking relationship, an on-line debit program, and a long-distance calling program, as well as serving twelve campus departments for a total of 38 readers. The next phases of the project involve the installation of readers in campus vending machines and the enhancement of payment solutions for the debit program.
Besides managing the card office, Ms. Dorsey supports current users of the card system, presents card solutions to potential users, and participates in the marketing and development of card programs. Her four years in the field of photography precede her work in ID production. She holds a B.A. in English from Southwest Missouri State University and is currently working towards a master's degree from CU-Boulder. |
Katy Doyle |
Katy Doyle, Vice President and Educational Banking Manager, has been with
Star Banc Corporation for approximately 10 years in consumer and electronic banking. She currently manages Star’s Educational and Student Banking
Department which is focused on the developing value added products and
services which meet the diverse need of the campus environment. Ms. Doyle

Patricia Eldred, University of Vermont |
Patricia Eldred is currently Interim Director of AFS Auxiliary Services at the University of Vermont. She has oversight of the following areas: CATcard Service Center (one-card office), Campus Ticket Store, University Store, University Graphics and Printing, Licensing Program, Mail Services and contracted Travel Center and Vending Services.
She led the committee that developed the University's one-card program. The UVM CATcard program, established in the Fall of 1995, has rapidly grown to include 15 applications with 200 readers controlling 300 machines, 5,200 account holders and approximately $1.5 million in deposits anticipated this fiscal year.
Eldred is currently chairing the University's PBX Telecommunication Purchase Committee, is Presidnet of the Eastern Association of College Auxiliary Services and serves on the Board of Directors of the National Association of College Auxiliary Services. She is also "mom" to her seven-year-old daughter, Jennifer and "spouse" to husband, Wes. |
William Haid, University of Colorado |
William Haid is registrar at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He has been the project director for the Buff OneCard system throughout its development and implementation. The registrar's office is responsible for the operation of the Buff OneCard system. With his colleagues at the University of Colorado, the Buff OneCard system was designed, acquired, installed, and implemented with full functionality for the Fall 1997 semester.
Haid has also worked at the University of New Mexico and Arizona State University. He has his MBA from Arizona State University. Haid recently complete a term on the AACRAO Board of Directors as Vice President for Professional Development, Publications and Research. He is the current nominee for the AACRAO President-Elect. |
Tom Hilton, The CBORD Group |
Tom manages and coordinates sales activities for CBORD's entire Communicating Systems division. He also works closely with the marketing group in strategic planning for the division's marketing program. Hilton has been with CBORD for over twelve years and during that time has had the opportunity to visit, work with, and advise hundreds of clients and prospective clients on the implementation and use of campus card systems. Additionally, he has spoken at many national conferences including NACAS, NACUBO, NACUFS, and EACAS.
Prior to joining CBORD, Tom was a private entrepreneur, operating Lewton's Haberdashers in Ithaca from 1977 to 1985. Previously, he had been a men's clothing buyer for Whitehouse & Hardy and Frank Brothers in New York City. He earlier occupied a similar position for Filene's in
Boston.
Tom attended Shippensburg University in Shippensburg, PA.
Active in the Ithaca, NY community, Tom has served as president of the Downtown Ithaca Business Association, business division chairman of the Tompkins County United Way, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce. He is currently active in the Ithaca Yacht Club.

Becky Hinkle, James Madison University |
A native Virginian, Ms. Hinkle has 26 years of carding experience with responsibilities for the development and implementation of the JMU Access Card program at the university. She has done consulting in the field of implementing new card access offices for many years and done many presentations in relationship to the program at James Madison University. Ms. Hinkle served on the board of directors for the Diebold Users Group for 4 years, which plans and implements a yearly forum to provide programs to enhance universities systems. In the past 8 years JMU's system has grow from providing only meal plans to a full blown system of: several decling balance accounts, access to dorms, on-line copiers, vending, bookstore, concessions, pizza delivery, parking, health center fees, university recreation center, athletic events, postal services, convenience store, library and many other activity checking readers. The card center now serves 98% of the campus community with some type of service. Ms. Hinkle conducts seminars in Virginia on Card Services which serve as a valuable resource for many of her colleagues. |
Robert Holmes, Clayton College and State University |
| Since 1995, Robert Holmes has been the Director of Auxiliary Services at Clayton College and State University in Morrow, Georgia. After receiving his B.A. from Georgia State University, he came to what was then Clayton Junior College in 1978 to manage the campus store. Highlighting his tenure as Auxiliary Director at Clayton State has been his involvement in the Information Technology Project, in particular the procurement and implementation of a universal campus card system. A past president of the Georgia Association of College Stores, Robert has been active in the college store industry for a number of years. |

Teresa Janeway, Stanford University |
Teresa Janeway, a graduate of West Virginia University has been involved with campus card systems for over ten years at the University of Tennessee and Stanford University. A promoter of University level systems improvement, Ms. Janeway is active with the Diebold Service Focus Committee, and serves as a Board member of the Diebold User Group. Development of applications providing user friendly systems is Ms. Janeway's focus, which allows students to focus on academic areas, rather than identification logistics.
While at the University of Tennessee, Ms. Janeway was instrumental in introducing student stadium access, providing an automated mechanism of monitoring ticket distribution and usage, which benefits both student and University. Ms. Janeway's interest at Stanford includes cardless application in addition to cardless network printing which allows students to conveniently perform print commands anywhere on the network and have their campus account directly credited. Janeway is an International presenter on University Campus Card Identification Systems. |

| Michael Karon has over 15 years experience designing, developing and implementing Card Systems in Higher Education. In his current position as Director of Technical Development for the Campus Systems Division of Diebold Incorporated, Mr. Karon manages development and implementation of card systems solutions for one the industry's leading providers. Prior to his association with Diebold, Mr. Karon spent over 10 years at UCLA implementing and managing a successful card program and other major business systems initiatives. Mr. Karon is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and holds BA and MBA degrees from UCLA. |
Peter Livingston, CapCard Inc. |
Mr. Livingston is the president of CapCard, Inc. CapCard provides credit unions and campuses with consulting and technical assistance relating to campus ID card financial institution partnerships. He has been with CapCard since its inception as a research project in 1991.
From 1983 to 1991 Mr. Livingston provided research, planning and product development services to credit unions and credit union trade associations in the United States and Latin America. Before that he was vice president in charge of research and product development for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). In that capacity he developed the national credit union checking and ATM programs.
Mr. Livingston served on the board of the Univesity of Wisconsin Credit Union from 1971 to 1991. He holds a BA from Harvard University and an MA from the University of Chicago. |

Gary Meszaros, Western Kentucky University |
| Gary Meszaros is the Director of Business Services at Western Kentucky University, the largest CBORD account in terms of on-line readers. He has been involved with the ID business for approximately 9 years. Previously, he worked at Case Western Reserve and implemented the campus-wide ID system using the HARCO access system there in 1988.
Gary has been a presenter at three of the four previous NACCU conferences covering the subjects, "How to Establish an ID System on Your Campus" twice; "Financing an ID Card System"; and "The Kiosk Connection". He was also involved in panel discussions twice for the NACAS conferences.
He was elected to the NACCU Board of Directors last year and serves and secretary. |

| Mr. Miller is Chairman of the CardTech/SecurTech Conference, the largest event in the world focusing on the application of advanced card technologies. With over 150 speakers and a 330 booth exhibition, the conference attracts over 5500 attendees from 55 countries. Mr. Miller is also editor and publiser of Personal Identification Newsletter (PIN), a leading newsletter covering technical developments and applications of smart cards, biometrics and information security technologies. He authors the Advanced Card and Identification Technology Sourcebook and has written more than 50 articles for various magazines and trade journals. Mr. Miller is a frequent speaker on card based transaction systesm, information security and identification technology. As a consultant he has assisted dozens of clients including American Express, Visa, IBM, MasterCard, Chase Manhattan Bank, and the US Departments of Agriculture, Defense and Treasurery. |

Nadia R. Naismith joined Penn Security Bank and Trust Company in June, 1997. Ms. Naismith graduated from Scranton High School and recently received a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA. Ms. Naismith was enrolled in Drexel University's Cooperative Education Program, through which she was employed at both Akzo Nobel Salt Inc., Clark Summit, PA and NovaCare, Inc., King of Prussia, PA. Shirley Nordstrom, University of Minnesota |
Ms. Nordstrom is currently Director of the U Card Office at the University of Minnesota.
Ms. Nordstrom has been employed at the University of Minnesota for over 28 years, serving in a range of administrative, financial and technological positions. While at the Office of Student Financial Aid, Ms. Nordstrom served as Program Coordinator, where she budgeted loan, gift and grant accounts; Student Counselor, where she advised students regarding financial aid and personal funds management; and Fiscal Officer, where she was responsible for the mangagement of over $100 million, including federal and state reports, reconciliation and overall audits.
In July, 1994, Ms. Nordstrom was named Project Lead of one of the most successful projects at the University of Minnesota in the last three years. The University's campus card project, which later came to be known as the U Card Program, began with a panel of representatives known a sthe U Card Steering Committee. Under Ms. Nordstrom's direction, the Steering Committee laid the groundwork for the implementation of the U Card, developed the architecture for the U Card System, identified qualifications for U Card Services, and determined stratagies for generating campus-wide support of the program. In addition, Ms. Nordstrom spear-headed the U Card's telecommunications and bank account contract negotiations, successfully meeting the University's goal of offering it's community valuable phone and bank account packages connected directly to the card. Under Ms. Nordstrom's supervision, the first U Card was issued in March, 1995 as part of a pilot program. The U Card Office was formed in July, 1995, and Ms. Nordstrom was named it's Director in April, 1996. Since that time, over 94,000 U Cards have been issued on all four University of Minnesota campuses, boasting a current bank account take rate of 42%, and a telecommunications take rate of 55%, as well as usage of the U Card at over 90 campus locations.
Ms. Nordstrom's current focus is on the U Card's transition from magnetic stripe to smart card technology. Ms. Nordstrom's education includes two years at Mankato Business College as well as current attendance at the University of Minnesota. |
Bill Norwood, CyberMark |
As the lead visionary for CyberMark, Bill Norwood is-once again-reshaping the campus card industry. In the mid-1980's, Bill utilized his 30-plus years of university management information systems experience to identify a plan which would ultimately move Florida State University to the cutting edge of card-based technology. His FSUCard became a model for campuses worldwide. In the early 1994, he established the Card Application Technology Center (CATC) at FSU and served as its executive director for three years. It was during these years that Bill and his assembled team assisted in program implementations at more than 200 institutions. Concurrently, he guided the design of the new, smart card-based FSUCard. In early 1997, Bill and his team left the CATC to help guide the smart card efforts for CyberMark, a newly-formed Ohio-based company. In his first year with CyberMark, he has helped the company to achieve an industry-leading position with eight campus smart card installations. Bill was a founding member of the National Association of Campus Card Users (NACCU), served on the board of directors for CUMREC, and is a frequent speaker at Cardtech/Securtech and other higher ed and card technology conferences. |
Dr. Lawrence K. Pettit, Indiana University of Pennsylvania |
Dr. Pettit brought nearly 20 years of prior experience as a university system chief executive officer when he became president of Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) on August 1,1992.
Under his administration, IUP has experienced unprecedented growth -- with the acquisition of new properties that nearly doubled the acreage of the University; the opening of the new Eberly College of Business building and the Robert E. Cook Honors College; the ongoing success of The Campaign for IUP which exceeded its initial $20 million goal two years ahead of its projected 1998 conclusion; the establishment of one of the country's first and foremost one-card systems for student financial, educational and activity services; the emergence of IUP into the stature of a leading national university as ranked by U.S. News & World Report, and the inception of a 20-year campus development plan.
From 1986-1992 Dr. Pettit was chancellor of Southern Illinois University and prior to that served as chancellor of the University System of South Texas. He also was chief academic officer for the Texas College and University System, chief executive officer of the Montana University System, and chairman of the Political Science Department at Montana State University.
During the 1960s he was an assistant and later associate professor of political science at Penn State University. His career has been accented with practical political experience as well. He served as campaign manager for the governor of Montana in 1972, and was a legislative assistant to two U.S. Senators, in 1959-60 and 1962.
Dr. Pettit is the author or co-author of four books and numerous articles in both political science and higher education. He has been on the editorial board of Educational Record since 1985. He has been president of the National Association of System Heads, the organization of presidents and chancellors of multi-campus universities, and has held numerous other leadership posts at the state, regional and national levels.
Dr. Pettit received his BA degree with honors from the University of Montana, an MA from Washington University in St. Louis, and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Wisconsin.
He and his wife, Libby (short for Elizabeth), have a blended family of seven children and eight grandchildren.

Ronald I. Pierce, Troy State University |
Ronald I. Pierce has been serving as Director of Auxiliary Services at Troy State University for the past year and a half. For the previous eighteen years he served as Director of the Dorothy K. Adams University Center. His responsibilities as Director of Auxiliary Services includes over-seeing the complete operations of the University Store, Trojan Media Services, the Box Office, the All-Campus Card, and all recreational areas such as the Trojan Oaks Golf Course,the Charles McDowell Lee Natatorium, the Student Recreation Center, and the Outdoor Pool. Mr. Pierce also serves as the President of Center Services, Inc., Troy State's non-profit student service organization.
When not busy at work, Mr. Pierce spends time with his wife, Susan, and their two children, Brett and Natalie. Mr. Pierce takes an active role in his family's life, having served as the local Cub Scout Master and the past Elementary PTO President. He also serves on the Strategic Planning Committee for the Troy City School System and has served in the past on the United Appeal Board. In his spare time, Mr. Pierce can be found on the nearest golf course. |
Jody Pietz, Iowa State University |
| As ISUCard Manager, Ms. Pietz is responsible ofr all aspects of Iowa State University's one card system. She manages the office, markets the card, and maintains the off-line vending system. Iowa State University began their card program in April, 1996, and 40,000 individuals have received cards since that time. Prior to her position with ISU, Ms. Pietz worked in the banking industry for 10 years and received her degree in Business from Iowa State University. |

Mr. Rao has been with CitiBank for 24 years and currently holds the position of Division Executive in charge of Stored Value and Smart Card Business globally. He has extensive international experience having worked in India, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, United Kingdom and the United States on both the corporate and consumer sides of the bank. Mr. Rao was educated at the Indian Institute of Management and the University of Chicago where he recieved an MBA in International Business. Attorney Otto P. Robinson, Jr. is a native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, (born May 24, 1938) son of Lois Howell Robinson and the late Judge Otto P. Robinson, was educated in the Scranton Elementary Public School System, attended Scranton Central High School and was graduated from Governor Dummer Academy, South Byfield, Massachusetts. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree m Mechanical Engineering (Scientific Option) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts with a concentration in economics in the humanities curriculum. He also holds a Juris Doctor Degree (Law) from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Prior to returning to school for his law degree, Mr. Robinson was employed as a specifications engineer by Transitron Electronics Corporation, Wakefield, Massachusetts, a company then specializing in semiconductor and integrated circuit research, development and production. Mr. Robinson was admitted to practice in the Pennsylvania Court System in 1966 and was then associated in the practice of law with Attorney Robert A. Robinson. He was elected as a director of Penn Security Bank and Trust Company (then known as the South Side Bank and Trust Company) in 1968, was named its general counsel in 1972 and was elected president in 1975. Mr. Robinson also serves as a director and general counsel of the North Penn Savings and Loan Association, Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Robinson is a director of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic Orchestra, the Scranton Cultural Center and the Community Board of Trustees of the Everhart Museum. He is a member of the Lackawanna County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations, the YMCA, die Lackawanna County Audubon Society, Professional Ski Instructors of America and Lake Winola Cottagers Association. He was formerly a director of Community Medical Center and a member of the Board of Directors of the Lake Winola Municipal Authority. Mr. Robinson resides in Scranton with his wife, Susan C. Robinson. They have four children.

Kathy Stipa is the Assistant Director of Campus Card Systems at Villanova University. Kathy has been involved with Villanova's Wildcard for the past five years. The Wildcard at Villanova houses their debit, mealplan, access, library, and new this year to Villanova, "Smart Chip Technology".

| Dr. Thermos is the President of the Boston based Strategic Technology Group, since 1989.
After a 15-year University faculty career in Criminology and Criminal Justice with Boston based Schools, Dr. Thermos became involved in the design and implementation management of campus-wide access control and security systems. He is the originator and designer of a multitude of systems from Harvard and Brown, to FSU and BYU. Dr. Thermos served over 20 institutions with complete campus-wide designs, from Maine to Florida. He was entrusted with technology selection and system implementation management of over 17 million dollars in capital projects. He is currently the designer of many SUNY Schools and the private Ivy League in the North East. A number of his publications, by-liners and ghost-authored articles appear frequently in the Access Control Magazine, and he maintains an extensive article archive in the his web site, free for all to access and benefit. A frequent presenter in national forums of NACCU, NACUBO, NACAS, ACUHO and other, Dr. Thermos insists that he has left his heart with NACCU, because "he was there from the beginning", when NACCU was born.

Randy Vanderhoof, Schulmberger/DANYL

Randy Vanderhoof is the Director of Product Marketing at Schlumberger DANYL Corporation. He has been with Schlumberger DANYL for 10 years, the last 7 years responsible for marketing and product development of magnetic stripe and smart card-based card systems. He is a frequent speaker on shifting trends in campus card technology and how smart card applications are impacting the higher education marketplace.
He is also chairman of the Education Workgroup for the Smart Card Forum , an association of over 250 organizations consisting of smart card industry manufacturers, financial institutions, services providers, retailers, and government agencies who strive to bring end users and industry together to promote smart card technology in North America.
Randy is a graduate of Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia. He received his MBA from Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ. Prior to joining Schlumberger DANYL , he was a Senior Account Representative for ITEK GRAPHIX, Inc. Randy is married with three children and resides in Mercerville, NJ.

| Mike is the Special Assistant to the Vice President for Finance and Administration, Wake Forest University. Primary responsibilities are the Director of the Deacon ONECARD and Project Manager for Building Security, Space Management, Winston-Net (fiber optic Intranet), and Staff Officer for the WFU Capital Planning Committee. Mike's education includes: Undergratuate degree from Chaminade University, Graduate degrees from Central Michigan University, Appalachian State University, and the Army Staff College. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, focusing in Educational Leadership. Mike is a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army having served in Hawaii, Korea, Ft. Bragg, NC, Europe and the Middle East during the Gulf War. His military awards include Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist and others. His teaching assignments were at North Carolina State University and Wake Forest University. Mike currently teaches in the History Department at Wake Forest University as well. |
Tony Warner, East Tennessee State University |
Mr. Warner has served Troy State University since 1985 and is currently D.P. Culp University Center and Campus ID System Director. Prior to arriving at Troy State University, he worked at Indiana University Southeast as University Center Director, University of Nebraska - Lincoln as Program Coordiator and at Western Illinois University. He is an active member of NACCU, the Diebold Users Group, NACA, ACU-I, NASPA and ACPA. Mr. Warner holds and Educational Doctorate from Troy State University, a Master of Science in College Student Personnel from Western Illinois University and a BS from Oklahoma State University. Mr. Warner is married with one child. |

Joy Williams is the Project Manager for the new PennCard/PennCast Smart Card installation at the University of Pennsylvania and is responsible for the marketing and coordination of the program and the installation fo several hundred smart card readers for laundry, vending, copiers and on and off-campus point of sale locations. When completed, the PennCard program will include over 900 readers serving 30,000 cardholders.
Joy earned her Bachelors in Business Administration with a Marketing major from Hofstra University in 1989, and completed her M.S. in Education, Higher Education Administration major, at the University of Pennsylvania in 1997.
Joy's background includes a wide variety of experience in sales management, marketing and project plannin and business advisory for national food services and retail food corporations, law firms and academic institutions. |
Read Winkelman, The CBORD Group |
Read is directly responsible for college and university sales within the Central sales region, manages college and university sales for the West Coast, and manages business and industry sales in both locations. Winkelman has been with CBORD for over two years, and in his travels has helped many clients and prospective clients configure their card systems to meet their campus needs. Read has spoken at many national conferences, technical/trade seminars, and is a highly rated speaker each year at CBORD's annual User Group Conference.
Before coming to CBORD, Read spent three years in residential life at Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He was responsible for the management of two residence halls and seven language houses. Read also helped rewrite the room assignment process for the college. While at Macalester, Read was a member of several higher-education professional associations including UMR-ACUHO, MCPA, and ATCCHA.
Read earned his BA in political science from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, where he also served as a resident assistant and captain of the club hockey team. He is an active alumnus, participating both in Alumni Affairs events and the Alumni Annual Fund campaigns.
Read is a home brewer of beer and has been an ice hockey player since youth.

| Paula Wright, Director, has over 15 years of experience in account management and support, product management, product training and product marketing. Paula was with AT&T CampusWide Access Solutions for the two years prior to working for CEI where she was head of the Marketing Department as well as Manager of the AT&T CampusWide Customer Care group. At CEI, Paula is responsible for the development and implementation of marketing strategies and marketing plans for CEI customers. |
