NACCU's 5th Annual Conference set a record for attendence with 495 full registrations and 120 guest/exhibitor passes issued. The exhibit floor featured 31 corporations displaying their products and services in 44 booth spaces. Attendees praised both the presentations, exhibit hall and overall administration of the conference. The Pre-Conference workshop, "Planning a Card System from Scratch", featured presentations from Jody Pietz of Iowa State University, Bryan Ignozzi of Dreifus Associates and Patricia Eldred of Univeristy of Vermont. As in past years, the Pre-Conference sessions were aimed at those new to card systems. The attendees had lots of questions as they learned of the issues facing campuses implementing their own systems. The conference features presentations from 15 different universities, seven corporate presentations and five Gold Corporate Associate presentations. The conference also featured two keynote addresses by Dr. Lawrence Pettit, President of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Jerry Rao, Executive Director of Electronic Cards from Citibank. All of the presentations were compiled in the conference proceedings which are available for purchase by NACCU Members. Eight of the conference sessions were videotaped and are available for purchase as well. The conference also featured many opportunties for networking with one's peers. The Polynesian Luau on opening night was a great success despite the slightly chilly weather. Each morning attendees enjoyed a continental breakfast at topic tables which were coordinatred by Lucy Barrera of MIT. Awards were given for Best Card Design and Best Marketing Materials at the awards luncheon. Mel Blackburn was presented the J. Paul Melanson Award for service to the campus card industry. Numerous other prizes were given away including two free conference registrations. Thanks to Feryal Allen of IUP for setting those up. Information and pictures are available of all the awards. NACCU also welcomed Art Gallagher of Brown University, Cindy Vetter of University of Northern Colorado and Mark Kuchefski of Indiana University to the board of directors. The board has now expanded to its maximum of nine members with the additional of two new spots and the departure of John Spaldo from the Board. Please check the conference links for more information.
