BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

 

To manage the GWorld Card Program software application, maximizing day-to-day system uptime and reliability along with overall administration of card functionality.

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1.       Maintains responsibility for managing the application, ensuring all readers are online and active, the system is processing data properly, and that the system has sufficient hard disk storage space to accommodate routine system process requirements.

2.       Manages card production and system administration of the DATACARD (or equivalent card production) system.

3.       Works with ISS to troubleshoot system problems, coordinate system upgrades, general maintenance, and project implementations.

4.       Manages the production or encoding of cards and ISO numbers for cardholders and courtesy cards.

5.       Communicates with Blackboard (or “One-Card” software vendor) the reporting of problems and ensures resolution in a timely manner. Along with support from GWorld Card Program Director, work with application vendor to assess reported problems on a monthly basis and develop process improvements as needed. Interfaces with technical systems analyst as needed.

6.       Provides 24x7 system support.

7.       Manages the GWorld portion of relationship with other departments in the support of additional systems, which may interface with the “One-Card” system (i.e. Banner, BSI-Bookstore System Interface, Uniprint, MDTs, Toye system).

8.       Develops and maintains full documentation of existing system along with associated processes and interfaces (including process flow diagrams).

9.       Develops methods of automating maximum number of current manual processes (including regular imports of data from other systems and reports) in an ongoing effort to increase efficiency of GWorld Card Office processes.

10.   Oversees the development, as well as streamlining, of campus-wide privileges and plans following existing nomenclature for continuity throughout system.

11.   Manages system hardware and software configuration of key university elements including: security, dining, VTS machines, vending, laundry, copy, print, POS, merchant dial-up terminals.

12.   Facilitates the purging of cardholder data from the system to ensure up-to-date information for maximum security as well as increased system efficiency.

13.   Coordinates the efforts of the GWorld “One-Card” Application Administrator to ensure maximum department efficiency as well as ensuring effective backup support for the system.

14.   Support efforts of CSRs in servicing customers as required.

15.   Assist University wide groups in access issues as required.

 

RELATED DUTIES

 

1.       Enhances professionally by attending training sessions, workshops/seminars and reviewing published literature.

2.       Continuously develops knowledge of “One-Card” System and hardware devices.

3.       Performs other work-related duties as requested.


 

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

 

Administrative and functional supervision is received from the Director, GWorld Card Program.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

 

No direct supervisory responsibility.

 

ENTRY-LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS

 

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, is necessary.

 

A minimum of five years experience as an application systems administrator.

 

Functional management of an automated office system.

 

Required technical skills: Basic UNIX operating system commands, entry-level GREP search commands, networking and system basics, data manipulation and management, Telnet and FTP experience, ability to trouble shoot and diagnose system issues.

 

Excellent communication skills, organization skills and attention to detail.

 

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Prior experience with a “One-Card” system.
